How to Use Seasonal Summer Melons

How to Use Seasonal Summer Melons

One of the best parts about summer is all the fruit! There is SO much available at the market this month, from berries to peaches. And if you're paying attention, you may be noticing all the different types of melons. Here at Covered Goods® we LOVE seasonal melons, and finding fun ways to use them in dishes and desserts is even better. If you're looking to try some new (and unique) flavors, we've put together a guide to help you out. Here are some of our favorite melons, with easy ways to enjoy them.

CANTALOUPE: You've probably tried cantaloupe cut up in a fruit salad or on its own, but have you thought about using it in a soup? We love this recipe that will cool you down on a hot day. Alternately, you can heat things up by grilling cantaloupe (yes, we said grilling!). Check out this idea from registered dietician Marisa Moore.

CANARY MELON: Canary melons are low fat and low calorie, but high in fiber—and taste similar to a honeydew. Try your canary melon in this Mexican inspired salad that uses cilantro and lime. You can even make jam with this tasty fruit...we can't wait to try this recipe out!

HONEYDEW: Honeydew is a sweet melon with a firm, green flesh. If you're a seafood lover, you'll go gaga over this recipe for grilled scallops with honeydew-avocado salsa. Or cool things down with these four ingredient honeydew-mint popsicles.

SPRITE MELON: Sprite melons are small, firm, juicy, and the PERFECT size for snacking. Looking for a creative way to use your sprite melon? We love this recipe for sprite melon raspberry spritzers.

HAMI MELON: Hami melons are sweet, crisp, and refreshing. Cut your hami melon in cubes and use it in smoothies or refreshing drinks. Or enjoy a slice straight up with a squeeze of lemon!

WATERMELON: Watermelons are probably one of the best-loved summer melons. What child (or adult!) doesn't love a cold slice on a hot day? That being said, there are SO many creative ways to use watermelon. This watermelon spritzer looks SO good, or you can make a watermelon granita for those sweltering July afternoons. And don't forget about this watermelon and feta salad...our personal fave! Still looking? Check out this giant chart of genius ways to use an entire watermelon.

How do you use summer melons in your meals and desserts? We'd love to hear about your creative ideas!
